simone biles headed towards 2024 Paris Olympics Having secured her spot on the US gymnastics team.
The 27-year-old athlete competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday, June 30, scoring a total of 117.225 over two days to secure a single automatic spot on the five-woman team. The Paris Games will be Biles’ third Olympics.
Biles previously won four gold medals and a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Despite eventually winning silver and bronze at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, she was forced to Withdrawal from multiple events After suffering from “The Twisties” Due to which she became confused in the air during the competition.
“In the back [gym]”We already knew my gymnastics was a little weird,” Biles said during a TV appearance in April. The “Call Her Daddy” Podcast”In training, I was already dealing with the twisties, but I’m trying to get past that. I literally tell the team … ‘I’m fighting demons. I’m fighting demons right now, but I’m going to do it for you guys.’ I literally felt like I was fighting my body and mind to do these tricks.”
Biles took a two-year break from competing after the Tokyo Olympics, but she returned to training in September 2022.
“I wish I could sit here and tell you it was amazing,” she said. Vanity Fair In her February cover story, she wrote, “When I took a break after 2016, I was having the best time of my life. I was doing anything and everything. But after 2020, it was depressing until I started therapy and got help. I felt like I had failed. Even though I was empowering so many people and speaking out about mental health, every time I talked about my experience in Tokyo — because it obviously didn’t go the way I planned — it stung a bit. But overall, it was the best decision.”
Regarding her ability to reinvent herself for the 2024 Olympics, she insisted at the time, “Even if I don’t make it to Paris, it won’t completely break me.”
Biles Return to competitive gymnastics in August 2023. “It felt really good [getting back out there]Especially after everything that happened last year,” she told NBC Sports at the time. “So, the people who were cheering, making posters in the crowd and all that, it just melted my heart that they still believed in me. I came back here and did what I was training for [to do]So, I am very happy with the result.”
He added: “I learned a lot after what happened in Tokyo [of time and] I worked on myself. I still have weekly therapy and I’m so excited to be here and have the confidence I had after everything that happened. … I feel like I lost a part of myself [having widespread support] Sometimes and to come back here and do what I did tonight and get the support I got from the fans and everybody watching, I can’t thank them enough.”
Biles stressed she “always” wanted to compete again after Tokyo, saying, “I did a lot of work on myself and I believe in myself a little more, it’s just about getting back here and taking those first steps again.”
In October 2023, Biles became The Most Awarded Gymnast in HistoryShe has a total of 37 medals at World Championships in her career.
