Rachel Dratch‘Prestigious Saturday night Live When the character Debbie Downer first appeared on a sketch comedy show in 2004, she became so popular that the phrase has entered modern parlance.

Dratch, 58, says Debbie – who can undoubtedly spoil the atmosphere of any event with her concern about AIDS and other negative themes in cats – was actually inspired by real events in her life.

“I was reminded of Debbie Downer when I was vacationing in Costa Rica and a guy made a depressing comment,” she exclusively tells The latest issue of our weeklyNow available on newsstands.
