There’s a new Civilization mobile game out, but the snag is you have to live in China to play it

The recent announcement of Civilization 7 has the world excited, and we know there’s a lot more to come out about that soon, but in the meantime there’s a closed beta test going on for a new mobile civ game, but it looks like it’s been created specifically for the Chinese market.

Mobile Site GamingOnIphone Civilization Mobile: World Origin (or its Chinese name World Qiyuan) has been discovered and will be published there by 2K.

Although the game is clearly based on Civilization and has its famous turn-based gameplay, the game seems to be more multiplayer focused than usual and features a system called the Four Emperors.

It’s possible that if the game is successful it could eventually make its way to Western markets too – after all, there’s nothing like a game as good as Civilization, but at this stage, the beta, which began on June 16, is only available in China, and entirely in Chinese.

At the recent Tencent Spark 2024 showcase held at the end of May, showcasing the Chinese giant’s upcoming games, the game was revealed as Civilization: World Source, so it’s unclear if the name was changed at the last minute or if something was lost in translation.

This is the third closed beta and will not include a server wipe at the end of it, so it seems likely that it will be released soon, or at least the open beta will be released soon. Good news if you’re in China.

In the meantime, the world is waiting for information on what will be included in the franchise’s main game, Civ 7, with Firaxis promising more details by August. For now We know it will be released in 2025 And nothing more than that at this stage.
