“I remember them trying to crawl up the stairs and now I remember them running up and down,” she said. “And I was thinking about the first time we brought them home and carried them up those stairs in the car seat and put them in a little thing and everything that happened there. And I was watching old videos of them when they were really little, and it’s like you want to grab things and let go. And when I saw these videos of them when they were babies, little kids, I couldn’t believe I had 7 and 5-year-olds. And I can’t believe all the memories. … There were so many things that we made there.”

“One night we were sitting on our couch in an empty apartment, all of us, the family and we were sitting there and it was just this moment. … But I was just crying because the same thing happened to me [as you]she explained to Kotb. “We brought our kids home to this place. Henry and I, you know, faced beautiful things and difficult things. I lost my grandparents in that apartment, and my girls drew stick figures and made me feel better. What this does is it marks time so clearly. You don’t usually think, ‘Oh, my gosh. Here we are. Here I’m going.'”

In preparing for their move, Kotb said her goal was “not to rush into it,” adding, “Don’t rush into the changes. Don’t rush into the end and say, ‘Let’s just get this over with.’ Like, sit down and take a minute and look around like you guys were sitting on that couch.”

Kotb revealed during an episode in March that she and her daughters were “moving to a new school somewhere.” “Making Space” Podcastlater clarified hoda and jenna that they were not leaving New York City.

“It’s interesting because think about how many times you’ve made changes in your life,” she told Bush Hager on March 28. “Every time I made a change in my life, and you made a change in your life, it seemed like a huge change all of a sudden. But the stories I tell about moving forward in my life come from that.”
