U.S. Delegation Travels to WSIS+20 Forum and AI For Good Summit – United States Department of State

U.S. Coordinator for International Information and Communications Policy, Ambassador Steve Lang, and Special Envoy Eileen Donahoe, Coordinator for Digital Freedom, are in Geneva, Switzerland, where they are leading the U.S. interagency delegation to the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event and the AI ​​for Good Global Summit, to be held May 27-31.

For more than twenty years, the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) have guided global digital cooperation across the UN system and inspired efforts to leverage digital technologies for sustainable development. The WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, and other UN agencies and co-hosted by the ITU and the Swiss Confederation. At the Forum, Ambassador Lang and Special Envoy Donahoe will highlight continued U.S. support for multi-stakeholder efforts to maximize the benefits of digital technologies while mitigating risks, including to human rights and information integrity.

The AI ​​for Good Global Summit is an opportunity for multi-stakeholder engagement to promote and discuss the use of AI to advance health, climate, gender, inclusive prosperity, sustainable infrastructure, and other global development priorities. AI for Good is organized by the ITU in partnership with 40 other UN agencies and held in collaboration with the Government of Switzerland. At the event, Ambassador Lang and Special Envoy Donahoe will address U.S. priorities on AI technologies, particularly as a catalyst to accelerate progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
