UNC Basketball program earns commitment from Belmont transfer Cade Tyson

The UNC basketball program has finally joined the transfer portal!

On Sunday afternoon, it was announced that Belmont transfer Cade Tyson has officially committed to North Carolina. The announcement comes just a week after Tyson made an official visit to Chapel Hill, as Tyson officially posted the news on social media.

The uproar has essentially continued since Tyson arrived on campus, as Xavier Ricks posted the news on Saturday afternoon.

This is a huge accomplishment for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels, as Tyson provides the shooting ability the program wants in the transfer portal.

Last season, Tyson was a lethal offensive weapon, averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Based on NCAA norms for three-point shooting percentage, Tyson ranks second nationally for the 2023–2024 season.

With the departures of Cormac Ryan and Harrison Ingram, finding legitimate scoring options has become at the top of the UNC basketball program’s to-do list. You can now officially put Cade Tyson into the Tar Heels plans for the 2024-2025 season, because they went out and got one of the best shooters available in the transfer portal.

Tyson could potentially serve as a “stretch four,” as he could be called upon to fill essentially the same role we saw Brady Manek and Harrison Ingram fulfill over the past few seasons. He could also get time on the wing if the Tar Heels elect to use a bigger lineup at the points this season.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program still have three scholarships to work with, but finding another forward (preferably a true center) will now become the focal point of North Carolina’s recruiting efforts.

Tar Heel fans have waited a long time, as we can now look forward to seeing Cade Tyson wear a Carolina blue uniform this upcoming season.
