Under Secretary Allen’s Meeting with Kosovan President Osmani – United States Department of State

Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy Liz Allen met with Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu today in Pristina, Kosovo. The Under-Secretary and the President discussed the strategic priority of advancing Kosovo towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of close coordination to achieve this goal. The Under-Secretary stressed the benefits of regional economic integration and the importance of European and transatlantic values ​​such as minority rights and media freedom.

The two also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Kosovo on countering foreign state information manipulation. Kosovo is the fifteenth country in Europe, Africa, East Asia, and North America to be supported by the US State Department Framework for Countering Foreign State Information Manipulation.

These countries have come together in a shared recognition that foreign state information manipulation, including disinformation and propaganda, is an international security threat that can create or exploit divisions within and between countries, threatening the integrity of elections. could endanger and undermine public confidence in the government. Through this MOU, the United States and Kosovo intend to expand information sharing, build capacity for critical counter-disinformation programming, and align government policies around the five key action areas established in the Framework. The expanded bilateral cooperation between the United States and Kosovo on countering foreign state information manipulation advances both countries’ shared interest in securing a free, open, and fact-based global information ecosystem.
