Under Secretary Fernandez’s Travel to Florida – United States Department of State

Undersecretary for Economic Development, Energy and Environment Jose W. Fernandez will travel to Miami, Florida on May 2, 2024 to attend the Annual Chiefs of Mission Conference hosted by the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). Under Secretary Fernandez will address senior-level diplomats from the Western Hemisphere and senior leadership from the National Security Council, State and Defense Departments, and relevant U.S. government agencies to discuss economic security challenges as well as opportunities across the Americas. While in Miami, Under Secretary Fernandez will also meet with the private sector and discuss promoting economic development in the region through programs such as the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (Americas Partnership). The Americas Partnership – A new regional framework to deepen economic integration and cooperation in our hemisphere brings together 12 partner countries to advance regional competitiveness, resilience, shared prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable investment. The United States believes that a strong economic partnership is fundamental to overcoming national security challenges – economic security, climate change, and irregular migration – and to delivering on the President’s positive agenda for a more prosperous, democratic, and secure region.
