Under Secretary Jenkins Travels to Austria, Sweden – United States Department of State

Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, is traveling to Vienna and Stockholm May 18-24, 2024.

In Vienna, Under Secretary Jenkins will participate in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s international conference on nuclear safety. She will be accompanied by the head of the US delegation, Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk; Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security Advisors; Christopher Hanson, Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission; and Cory Hinderstein, acting principal deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration.

While in Vienna, the Under Secretary held bilateral meetings, additional events to emphasize the U.S. commitment to nuclear security and combating weapons of mass destruction, promote the implementation of nuclear security legal instruments, and reiterate firm U.S. support for Ukraine. And will also participate in outreach programs. , and stressed the essential role of nuclear security in maintaining the global use of peaceful nuclear energy.

In Stockholm, Under Secretary Jenkins will participate in senior meetings on reducing the risk of nuclear conflict. These meetings will be used to discuss ways in which risk reduction can reduce tensions, increase trust and eliminate misunderstandings, thereby improving the prospects for nuclear disarmament and complementing such efforts .
