VisionOS can now make spatial photos out of 3D images | TechCrunch

Apple today kicked off WWDC 2024 with a few VisionOS announcements at what it promised would be a great event. At the top of the list is the ability to turn existing images into spatial photos. The new feature uses machine learning to create additional angles, marking a change from the existing method, which required images to be shot on the iPhone 15 Pro or Vision Pro itself.

The move is again an attempt to enhance content creation for the headset, which Apple announced at WWDC last year. Users can now recreate old photos taken on the current device. This comes in the wake of a slow start for the company’s long-awaited entry into the mixed reality space.

The efficacy of machine-generated images is still unclear, but they likely won’t produce images as accurate as those taken with depth cameras.
