X pushes more users to Communities | TechCrunch

X is introducing a new version of its Communities feature, which lets users create networks around topics of interest, each with their own dedicated space and timeline. The company announced a number of changes to Communities on Thursday, including better search tools, recommendations, search and sorting options, with other updates to come.

The overarching goal is to connect X’s user base with other people, where they can post about a particular topic and comment on others’ posts.

Communities are a key part of making X, formerly Twitter, a more valuable company in terms of the data it offers. Already, Elon Musk’s X has a relationship with his AI company XAI, and XAI’s Grok chatbot Access to real-time X data, or what were known as tweets. But with X’s communities, the company could create something just as valuable as the Twitter firehose. With Thursday’s improvement, X users will now be able to discover posts from new communities that are trending directly from the Explore tab within the section. (Note that this is separate from the Explore tab which shows what’s trending across X, which can be accessed from the app’s main navigation.)
