YouTube launches improved ‘eraser’ tool to remove music that would get a copyright strike

YouTube has launched an advanced eraser tool to help creators remove copyrighted music with minimal impact on the poster’s video.

This feature is designed for rapid removal of music soundtracks without affecting other audio such as dialogue or sound effects.

“Delete Song” was previously available as a beta feature to remove protected content on the Google-owned video-sharing platform, but it did not meet the required performance standard. Improvements have been made to it, including the use of an AI-powered algorithm to identify and remove a particular song without any other errors. It hangs.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan posted on X (formerly Twitter) to inform users about the improved feature.

Caution still advised with the “Erase Song” tool

platform, which is striving to New technology to block third party apps which allows users to skip ads on videos, has warned that the new tool is not perfect and that sometimes the algorithm may simply fail to remove copyrighted tracks.

Its support page says, “This edit may not work if the song is difficult to remove. If this tool doesn’t successfully remove a claim on a video, you can try other editing options, such as muting all sound in the claimed segment or trimming the claimed segment.”

Caution is advised as processing times may vary after edits are made and users cannot make other edits if the browser window is closed during processing. Also, if the video has more than 100,000 views but your channel is not signed up for the YouTube Partner Program service, the changes may not be saved.

The second option is for creators to select “Mute all sound in claimed segment” to erase all audio from potentially copyrighted content. When this happens, YouTube removes the Content ID claim.

The “Delete Song” feature will be rolling out to users on both desktop and mobile versions of YouTube Studio in the coming weeks.
