Cyndi Lauper on Why ‘Now Is the Time’ for Her Farewell Tour

ET’s Denny Directo spoke with the 70-year-old singer at the premiere of his album “The Big Bang” in Los Angeles on Tuesday. let the canary sing – The documentary tells the story of her rise to fame and storied career – and also details her recently announced Girls Just Want to Have Fun Tour, a thrilling 23-city tour set to kick off later this year.

Between her advancing age and the fact that she hasn’t had the opportunity to perform in arenas in four decades, Lauper, who began her career in 1983, says now is the perfect time to tour.

“I honestly want to do an arena tour. I haven’t done one since the ’80s and I feel like I’m in good shape,” the “True Colors” singer said. “I feel strong enough to do a really good job.”

Lauper said advances in technology have given her the power to take touring to another level.

“You know, there’s a lot of innovative things going on with staging, lighting, and AI,” he said, adding, “For me, maybe the idea of ​​using [artificial intelligence] Creating art is incredible… that’s what excites me.”

In total, she has toured nearly two dozen cities in the US and Canada, beginning in Quebec in October and ending in Chicago in December. This is her last tour as she says her life has become too busy to try something like this in the future. Apart from singing, she has previously showcased her talent in shows like The Terror of Central Park, Dolores Roach And Young Sheldonaccording to him Imdb,

“It’s time to do this now and I can’t write for a show and then go on tour, I can’t do that. So this is it for me,” Lauper — whose other major hits include songs such as “Time After Time” and “All Through the Night” — said.

While they haven’t announced any openers or guests yet, the tour is expected to begin soon. Live Nation Page promises exciting surprises for attendees. Lauper told ET that she hopes this farewell tour will give fans some much-needed entertainment and flexibility as her touring career comes to an end.

“People need hope and you have to give them hope and you have to give people some relief, you know? I’m big on that, so for this tour, it’s a celebration and it’s going to be fun,” she said. “This tour is going to be fun.”

“I want to say thank you to everybody,” Lauper added.[Say goodbye to] I want to say goodbye to all those who stayed with me and listened to me. I am going to travel the world once again.”

As for her other project, her documentary — which was previously slated to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023 — the singer, actress and composer called it a “full-circle” moment to be able to celebrate the film with the world after years of patiently waiting for it to come to fruition.

According to the description, the film traces Lauper’s decade-long career and her cultural impact as an icon of feminism and human rights. It’s a project that’s very close to her heart and one she can’t wait for fans to love.

While she acknowledges that the film is about her, Lauper says it’s really director Alison Ellwood’s film. Lauper says she’s happy she found someone so passionate and fulfilling to tell her life story the way she always hoped it would, even if (spoiler alert) she survives in the end — her words, not ours!
