Miley Cyrus: My Dad is a Narcissist, But I Love Him!

Earlier this week we confirmed that Billy Ray Cyrus was ending his marriage Only seven months later.

However, observers have been wondering this for much longer:

Is his relationship with famous daughter Miley Cyrus also over? Where do the two singers stand with each other?

“I inherited narcissism from my dad,” Cyrus said during an interview with David Letterman for the latest episode of the Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.

This seems like a harsh comment, but Cyrus spoke quite deeply about her relationship with her father.

Miley spoke about Billy Ray, who had a huge country music breakthrough with his cover of “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992. “He’s so committed to reality and nature and he always did that, even when he was very famous.”

“I’m grateful I can see him ahead of me. He’s almost given me this map.”

“And there’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and they’ve given me guidance on both counts.”

However, in February the world watched as Miley won a Grammy Award – and noticeably, she didn’t even mention her dad on stage.

After winning Record of the Year, Miley thanked her “love” Max Morando along with her sister and mother Tish, before telling the audience:

“I don’t think I forgot anyone. But I might have forgotten my underwear. Bye!”

Miley’s parents will separate in 2022; the two remarried in 2023, though one of Miley’s brothers and one of her sisters did not attend their father’s wedding.

It appears there is some sort of rift between members of the Cyrus family.

However, Miley didn’t address the issue during her interview with Letterman.

Yes, she described Tish as her “hero.”

And, yes, she stressed that her mother was the one who truly “raised” her.

But he also defended his father, and spoke at length about his difficult childhood and how he did not grow up in the same loving family as his mother.

“The way my dad was raised, he grew up in a very poor family in a very small town,” Miley told Letterman.

“His parents divorced when he was very young. My dad had a very difficult childhood and my childhood, honestly – I mean, we can talk about hard times and struggles; you know, it was hard to get your homework done and memorize your lines – but I had food, I had love, I grew up in a beautiful big house.

“And my dad didn’t have that.

“So I have a lot of empathy and compassion for his childhood, which obviously evolved to make him the person he is now and who I have a lot of love for.”

And as for that alleged family feud?

Or “estrangement” from his father, as the letter put it?

“I think the most beautiful thing is that my parents served their children, and I know that,” Miley said on stage.

“My parents served us and sacrificed a lot for us. Whatever we dreamed of, they made it possible.”
