Niecy Nash-Bates Working on a new project – something “very dark” and starring alongside an unexpected co-star: Travis Kelce.
Nash-Bates was the first to reveal Kelsey’s involvement in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming new project, weirdnessback in May, and when she spoke with ET’s Deidre Behar, she was more than happy to share some praise On the carpet at the 2024 BET Awards Sunday at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
Nash-Bates – with whom he was wife jessica bates “I’ve never played a role like this before. It’s very sad, I’m so excited for people to see it,” she told News of the series — at the star-studded awards ceremony on Sunday.
“There might be some cameos,” Nash-Bates said. “I won’t name names. But it’s a good time.”
As for Kelce, though, Nash-Bates said he held his own on set — especially since this is his first dramatic acting role.
“You know, I’m pleasantly surprised,” Nash-Bates said. “He’s doing really well.”
Nash-Bates said she does everything she can to train Kelce, and described a typical rehearsal for them, saying, “We sit around eating In-N-Out and read words off a piece of paper.”
As for whether or not she’s asked him too many questions about his famous girlfriend Taylor Swift, Nash-Bates told ET, “I don’t ask anymore! That’s all I say.”
a source told ET in May “Travis Kelsey is juggling many roles these days, as he steps into the world of acting in his first TV series role… Details of Travis’ role are still under wraps, however, it will be a guest-starring role, and his presence will be felt throughout the series.”
The source added, “Travis is excited to practice this skill and show another side of himself off the field. There are more projects like this to come.”
As for spending time with his wife at this year’s BET Awards, Nash-Bates revealed she’ll be performing during the show — and thus making history.
“Jess is the first married lesbian couple to perform at the BET Awards,” explained Nash-Bates, who tied the knot with the singer-songwriter in August 2020. “And oh, man, we’ve been so happy ever since we realized that.”
For the Emmy Award-winning actress, being with her wife and making history during such an iconic show is a true joy in itself.
“It’s for the culture, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else with anyone else,” Nash-Bates said with a smile.
