Wuthering Waves pity system explained: How many pulls guarantees a 5-star?

Like other gacha-style games, Wuthering Waves offers the chance to secure a number of different characters for both in-game and real-life currency. Since the characters, or resonators as they are called in Wuthering Waves, have a rarity associated with them, that means it can take some time and potentially a lot of money to get the one you want.

However, there is a mercy system that will give you some leeway if you’re still looking for your favorite character after spending money. How it works is a little different than usual though and if you read on, we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

How does the Wuthering Waves Mercy system work?

For example, like Genshin Impact, you have to accumulate a lot of pull (convene) to make the mercy system effective. However, while there are similarities, there are also some differences, and some that actually benefit the player.

To put it as simply as possible, here is a brief description of how the Wuthering Waves Mercy system works:

  • 10 combinations guarantee a 4-star character/weapon
  • 80 Conveyance guarantees a 5-star character/weapon
  • Mercy system progress is carried over from the current event banner to the next

One thing to note here is that while the 5-star character is guaranteed when it comes to 80 pulls, there is a chance. There is a 50% chance that you will get the character present in the event banner and the remaining 50% will get another character present in the standard 5-star pool.

The silver lining here is that if you lose the coin toss, you are guaranteed to get the Event Banner Resonator the next time the 80 pulls occur.

This only applies to characters though, not weapons, so keep that in mind.

As far as the pity system goes, it works as you’d expect. If you make 50 pulls in the current event, you’ll only need 30 more to get 5-star next time, which is a great feature, and one that will be welcomed by those who aren’t exactly big spenders.
